Since I was small I’ve been introduced to different cuisines from different sorts of region. Papa was the mastermind behind all this and I should really thank him for the exposure.

Sate Padang is one of our family’s favourite. I remember going out for dinner with them and we will head to this one stall in Dato Keramat.

We’ve tried few other sellers but it doesn’t taste quite like this old lady’s Sate Padang. Her sate and the gravy are so delicious and she’s super generous with the food. That’s the bonus point eh.

I stop eating food that Mama love after she passed away and reason being is because I don’t think I can handle it. It took me few years after she’s gone to start eating Sate Padang again. Off I go on my little adventure “Sate Padang” hunting I call it only to a disappointment that the old lady no longer selling our family’s favourite dish. Oh well, I didn’t come this far to only come this far. Though I’m a bit picky when it comes to food I know I just have to give other seller a try. Worst thing that can happen their food sucks and I don’t have to give them business again.

I found a seller somewhere in Kampung Baru but I vaguely recall where exactly the place was. The food was okay I won’t complaint on the portion for not everyone is generous. From that night onwards I never return for another serving maybe because the old lady has set a higher benchmark.

Years had passed and I start to have the craving again. With the help from the internet I found a recipe this time I decided to give it a try.

It’s different when you’re learning from a mere text and image on the internet. I don’t have anyone that I can refer to therefore I have to trust my gut feeling and let my preference of taste lead my way.

Amy Hakim did it. stick-less version of the Sate Padang.

I will practice until I master it.

For now, craving satisfied.
